Vengeance di Sloane Kennedy

Eccoci arrivati al mio libro preferito dell'intera serie, quello di cui prenderò sicuramente la versione cartacea e che mi rileggerò  più e più volte.
Parliamo di Vengeance, quinto libro della serie The Protectors di Sloane Kennedy.

La trama:

Brennan

But any relationship with Memphis means he has to let go of the one thing in his life he’s always valued above everything else…

Tristan
At nineteen, Tristan Barretti should have had the world at his feet. His musical gifts have garnered him prestige as well as admission to the famed Julliard School in New York and he has a family that most people would kill for. But the protective bubble his fathers have kept him in has burst and he’s discovered that life outside his unconditionally loving family isn’t as accepting of a kid born with HIV. A poor decision to find answers to questions better left unasked, along with the complications of living with his disease, have Tristan returning to Seattle and the solace of his family.

And to the young man he’s wanted from the time he was barely old enough to even understand what that meant.

But with an uncertain future that leaves him nothing to offer the gorgeous and successful Brennan Devereaux, Tristan knows the best he can hope for is to keep building on the friendship they’ve shared for years and not get his hopes up that Brennan will be the one man who sees him and not his disease.

Except all bets are off when danger follows him home…

Choices
Even though a physical relationship with Brennan was supposed to be just that, Memphis finds himself unable to refuse his young lover’s request to help put a stop to the threat against Tristan. Even knowing full well that Brennan’s heart lies with the man he claims is nothing more than a friend, Memphis accepts the challenge of ensuring Tristan’s safety.

But when the quiet music student stops being a “job” and starts being something much more, Memphis is torn between his growing feelings for both young men and the fear that he’ll be facing an even greater betrayal that he’ll never be able to come back from.

Except none of that matters when the threat that Memphis never saw coming puts Brennan and Tristan in the crosshairs.

And the cost of the vengeance he once craved suddenly comes at too high a price

Come avrete capito dalla cover e dalla sinossi, ci troviamo di fronte una Thresome, come nel primo libro.

Qui però le dinamiche cambiano e questo già per me è un punto positivo perchè avevo paura di ritrovarmi con la storia simile a quella di Jonas, Mace e Cole.
 La Kennedy invece ci racconta una storia completamente diversa con personaggi sempre complessi e legami intrecciati alla perfezione.

Iniziamo da Memphis che è il secondo in comando dopo Ronan, è un ex agente della Dea che dopo aver perso tragicamente la sua famiglia per colpa di una persona che credeva di amare, si ritrova solo e così entra nell'organizzazione di Ronin.

Come tutti i Protectors non ama i legami e le relazioni e soprattutto Memphis non condivide i propri partner occasionali; nel libro precedente salva la vita di Brennan, il nipote di Dom Berretti e da quel momento tra i due scoppia la passione.

Memphis fa di tutto per mantenere la relazione solo sul piano fisico ma non conosce ancora Brennan e la sua determinazione.

Brennan è il mio personaggio preferito della serie perchè è forte, sa quello che vuole e non ha paura di andare a prenderselo: è così infatti che fa capitolare Memphis e il loro rapporto procede piano piano ma andando sempre più ad intensificarsi. Si butta a capofitto nella relazione con l'uomo, si dona completamente
C'è però il problema di Tristan.

Chi è Tristan? è il figlio adottivo di Dom e Logan Barretti e Brennan è da sempre innamorato di lui, al punto che le sue ultime parole a Memphis nel libro precedente sono state "dì a Tristan che l'ho sempre amato".
Il motivo per cui Brennan non si è mai dichiarato a Tristan è che crede che il ragazzo sia etero e non vuole rovinare la loro amicizia.
Tristan però etero non lo è mai stato e anzi, anche lui è da sempre innamorato di Brennan e per la stessa ragione non si è mai dichiarato.
Due geni proprio non c'è che dire ^_^

Tristan è giovane e insicuro, soprattutto a causa della sua malattia che non gli consente di sviluppare della relazioni o fare amicizia: ha contratto l'HIV alla nascita perchè la sua madre biologica era una drogata e Tristan deve prendere costantemente farmaci per mantenere la malattia sotto controllo.

All'inizio della storia ritorna a Seattle dopo aver frequentato la Juliard a New York ma non è stata un'esperienza positiva e così torna a casa e va a vivere con Brennan che nel frattempo sta frequentando di nascosto Memphis.

Brennan e Memphis continuano a vedersi rispettando le regole imposte dall'uomo sulla segretezza e la mancanza di legami, però quando fanno sesso i due uomini sono profondamente coinvolti e questo spiazza completamente Memphis.

Brennan vorrebbe dire a Tristan di questa relazione ma non trova il coraggio.
Quando però Tristan ha bisogno di aiuto perchè qualcuno lo sta minacciando, Brennan lo porta da Memphis per farsi aiutare.
Subito in Memphis scatta l'istinto di protezione, misto a invidia per il rapporto stretto che hanno Brennan e Tristan.
E' bello vedere Memphis che riesce a lasciarsi un pò andare con Tristan raccontandogli qualcosa di sè e del suo passato: dove non arriva a scioglierlo Brennan, ci pensa Tristan e questo dà l'idea del rapporto intenso che si sta creando tra i tre uomini.

Una delle scene più belle per me è stata quando sono tutti  tre dal medico di Tristan a chiedere informazioni per poter fare sesso sicuro e Tristan è commosso dal gesto dei due uomini, disposti a prendere dei farmaci pur di stare con lui. La scena mi ha fatto anche ridere perchè Tristan diventa rosso peperone di fronte alle domande precise e sfacciate di Memphis e Brennan sul cosa si può fare cosa no a letto-----> interessante anche dal profilo informativo perchè io ad esempio molte cose non le sapevo.
Nella seconda parte del libro arriva il classico twist narrativo che poi dà il titolo al libro e cioè la vendetta: una persona del passato di Memphis ritorna per portare via di nuovo all'uomo ciò che ha di più caro: Brennan e Tristan.
Come al solito non vi dirò cosa accade ma vi avviso: ci sono scene di violenza abbastanza esplicite quindi se siete impressionabili, questo libro non fa per voi.
Sul finale, nonostante il terribile twist, ho apprezzato come l'autrice riesce a far guarire e tornare insieme i tre uomini e la scena di Memphis nel vialetto della famiglia Barretti è ADORABILE ^_^ tra l'altro sto pensando di farmi adottare anche io da Dom e Logan Barretti ^_____^
